I would argue that both "versions" of metamodernism are the same. The one you describe at length is the integrationist level of the Integral/Spiral Dynamics system, and it's at that level that you can really understand and recognize the developmental levels. I've also written on metamodernism, typically from an aesthetic perspective, but I take this both-and approach in my writings on it.
