This seems to suggest that we cannot and should not judge contemporary works or compare them to other works. I disagree. I find it irrational, unfair, and disingenuous to not have these discussions. When it comes to art, what else are we to compare it to other than other art? I could have chosen a contemporary piece and talked about the fact that there’s a dialogue going on with it, and the point would be just as valid. I didn’t make any point that requires it to be Monet or Rodin.

I will also note that this piece isn’t necessarily a condemnation of the work. It was a discussion of the difference between art that acts as a dialogue and art that acts as a lecture.
